The NY Times recently published an article tackling five questions potential homeowners should to ask themselves before buying a home. Several points on their list rank on my own list of things I would recommend considering before buying. Buying a home is a big commitment and it can be very expensive should you need to sell. Here is the start of my list of my top things to consider before putting in your offer: 1. Time in home - are you going to be there long enough to justify the expense of ownership? 2. Payment - Your lender may approve you for considerably more payment than you should have right now. Analyzing your own financial situation and determining how much to spend on housing each month is critical. 2. Maintenance - Besides monthly expenses for mortgage, insurance, and utilities, what else about the potential purchase is going to cost you money in the future? There are many other decisions to consider when buying a home and I should write about them soon. To get started, read the NY Times article [here](http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/22/upshot/five-questions-you-need-to-ask-yourself-before-buying-a-home.html).
